{tvb} Slow Boat Home Thoughts

I'm glad to say that Slow Boat Home is enjoyable so far. I'm quite fond of the lead actors, so that might be a major reason why I'm liking this series so far, but I also like it because it's simple and light hearted compared to the more recent TVB series (like Bullet Brain and Beauty at War). There's no interesting characterization, since they all seem like the typical TVB characters. Raymond Wong is Cheung Po Tsai, a hotheaded guy with no sense of responsibility, Aimee Chan as Kate/Po-po in her typical ABC role, Ruco Chan as Fit Wing, the handsome professional and all around perfect guy, and Selena Li as Heidi, a career minded "evil" girl. Of course, Cilla Lok is the unbearable bratty and spoiled little girl who will inevitably realize her mistakes and be a good girl, and there's Mat Yeung as the nice boy who is in love with her. Raymond and Aimee make an okay couple so far, but their chemistry is nothing compared to that of Ruco and Selena. For their first time working together, they have amazing chemistry. Although Heidi started off unlikeable, I really like her and Fit Wing together. She's not an antagonist, which makes it a lot easier to like her character. :) I don't particularly like Cilla and Mat together, and it's mostly cause I don't like her character. ~~Mat's just so so cute though, I really loved him in episode nineteen you guys should just watch it for him ajdlfjlskaf~~

When they first announced this series, I thought that it would focus more on songs, but I guess that's not what this series really was about. Cilla's character sort of sang, but I guess after her contract fiasco, she's not going to sing in the series anymore... Anyways, if you don't know if you should watch this or not, you could just watch Ruco and Selena's scenes together. :) And maybe Raymond, Ruco, and Mat's scenes together, because their bromance is just so cute.

{tvb} The Day of Days Final Thoughts

It's quite unfortunate that things ended up being as I expected and that this series did not get any better. I expected things to change after Lai Wo turned out to be the mayor's son, but the plot did not really move forward. Most of the characters stayed static the whole series, and even after they did change, it was a drastic and unbelievable one. None of the romantic storylines made any sense, and the ending was just another cliched happy ending churned out by TVB.

Characters

Sunny Chan as Lai Wo/Wong Sai Kit

I was really disappointed in how this character was written. He was a typical good guy, albeit a little ignorant and powerless. At first, I thought that Lai Wo would be turn more assertive and maybe even evil, but I was wrong. I think that this series would have been better if Lai Wo became Acting Mayor earlier in the series. His character would have been more fleshed out.

Sonija Kwok as Tong Nga Wun

I don't see how she was the female lead of this drama, seeing as she did not have much screen time. The same could also be said for Sunny as well. I liked her strong, independent character, but her actions at the end of the series confused me. It was obvious that she did not like Lai Wo in a romantic sense, but the writers forced her to be in love with him at the end. I thought it would have made more sense for her to not marry, but I guess TVB always wants their female and male leads to end up together.

Raymond Wong as So Fei

A flirtatious yet romantically innocent gang leader - he's a good boss, but that's pretty all much to say about him. He's a regular, hot headed guy who falls in love with a pretty girl. I still liked his scenes, since this is Raymond Wong we are talking about here, lol. He doesn't really change during the course of the whole series at all.

Lin Xia Wei as Tong Nga Man

I don't like these type of female characters - the spoiled, rich girls who use people. It's true that she changed after Nga Wun got put in jail, but her ending change was too drastic for me. I liked how she got responsible, but it seemed out of character for her to give up her rich lifestyle and become the Ah So of the coolie gang. I also do not believe that she fell in love with So Fei after he rescued her; she hated him a lot.

The plot was not interesting at all until the last episode, in my opinion. I guess it was just all build up to the fifth day of the new year, when all the action happened. The bad guys got their usual comeuppance. I was disappointed Wong Tsan Bong (Matt Yeung) didn't die in the end, haha. I wouldn't recommend watching this series, unless you have nothing better to do. I don't regret watching this, since watching Raymond Wong and Sammy Sum in the last episode do lion dancing was worth it, haha.

{tvb} SSSS Ep 10-28 & The Confidant Ep 1-19 Thoughts

Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles

The series is enjoyable, albeit a little draggy. The main storyline that concerns Arthur Chung Cheuk Man (Damian Lau) and the building project is uninteresting to me. Although he is smart and calculating, I do not like how he deceives Chi Kwan (Tavia Yeung) and his son, Kai Sun (Kenneth Ma) into thinking that he's doing it to help the mui jai (slave girls) when in fact it is just to benefit himself. Granted, that doesn't make him a bad person, but it's sad when Chi Kwan thinks that he is doing it to help her. I also dislike that Master Fok (Sek Sau) blames Lester's (Stefan Wong) death on the Chung family. I imagine some more drama will be coming from his conflicts with Cheuk Man.

A storyline I prefer to the business one is the one concerning Yee Yin (Idy Chan), Cheuk Man, Chai Yat Fai (Ben Wong), and in a way, Chi Kwan as well. It is surprising how wishy washy Yee Yin is to regarding her love life. She tells Cheuk Man that she does not love Chai Yat Fai anymore, but later when she hears he got beat up, she is willing to drop everything to go visit him. I don't think that she is truly in love with either of them. It feels more like she feels guilt towards the both of them. Anyways, I'm glad that Yee Yin and Chi Kwan are good friends. Chi Kwan learns more about Cheuk Man while observing the conflicts, and Yee Yin has someone to help her during her hard times.

I also enjoy watching Siu Yau (Rebecca Zhu) and Kai Sun together. So far, Siu Yau is such a sweet character, and Kai Sun is also such a good man and loving husband. Muk Shui (Ron Ng) comes back and just has to ruin everything, though. After he comes out of his coma, it's so obvious that he is faking losing his memory. I've got to hand it to Ron, though, because he shows elements of Muk Shui onscreen when nobody is looking, and so only viewers could tell that Muk Shui is only pretending to be mentally challenged. Although I greatly dislike his character, I'm looking forward to how this storyline plays out.

And last but not least, I just have to say that I love Ho Yee (Sire Ma) and Tat Chi (Adrian Chau) together.

The Confidant

I am loving this series right now, after spending a few days to watch from the beginning to episode 19. I really loved the beginning, especially the Jing Ren palace and how Lady Yuen (Selena Li) and the eunuchs and maids interacted with each other. The beginning really made me dislike Empress Dowager Chee Hei (Michelle Yim), but as the episodes passed, I've come to like her. I just don't enjoy the politics scenes or the ones with Empress Dowager Chee On (Maggie Siu), though. The eunuch group of Li Lin Ying (Wayne Lai), On Tak Hoi (Raymond Cho), Sheung Hei (Raymond Wong), Pang Sam Shun (Power Chan), and Tin Sau (Edwin Siu) is especially cute to watch. I didn't like Pang Sam Shun in the beginning, especially when he bullied Sheung Hei and Lin Ying, but he wasn't a bad person. I could tell that he changed after he caused Sin Yung (Nancy Wu) to miscarry.

I don't particularly care for the Emperor (Oscar Leung) or his empress troubles, even though I am glad that Oscar is finally getting screentime. I actually liked the kid emperor story with how Lin Ying helps him know about the Empress Dowager Chee Hei's love for him. I don't like the Princess (Aimee Chan) either. Hopefully, there are more scenes of the eunuch group before it gets all broken up.

So, I don't know if you guys have noticed, but I am a big fan of Raymond Wong. (: As I was going through this Chinese music website, I found a song that he sang! It was for ATV's series Son from the Past, which aired in 2004. Since blogger can't host music files, I uploaded it on tumblr, haha. Listen here! I've been listening to this on repeat ever since I downloaded the song, haha. I didn't think that his voice would be suitable for singing, but he proved me wrong. I wish he would sing more~

{tvb} TV Funny Ep 15

Also known as <玩轉三周1/2>. Now, I've been watching it these past weeks, and none of the skits were that amazing (except the second skit in episode 6, that one was so funny). However, I was anticipating the TV City skit because of that fact that many of the TVB artistes would be in it. It was too bad that the parts in TV City weren't that long. D:

BUT. One good thing did happen. This.

Hehe. Now I want a series with Ron and Raymond Wong in it.

Well, I really liked Raymond Lam's part too, he was so cute. :) Too bad I couldn't find his cut of the episode. Well, there was one tiny part with 2R that I had to cap from Ron's cut though.

{tvb} Tavia's new series

Apparently Tavia is supposed to be filming an ancient or pre-modern series after she finishes 36 Hours, and people are speculating that it would be either 名媛望族 (Prominent Family) or 大太監 (The Great Eunuch). There are pros and cons for each series, but either way I'll be watching whatever series she films (unless it's Prominent Family with a Kenvia pairing). So, here are my thoughts on the pros of each series.

名媛望族 (Prominent Family)

Pre-modern series means she might have long hair
Possible TaRo pairing
Tavia and Fala scenes

大太監 (The Great Eunuch)

Tavia will get to work with Wayne
Possible Raymond Wong and Tavia pairing
Pretty ancient clothing for Tavia to wear (maybe)

Okay, this might be Raymond bias, but I'd kind of rather Tavia film Eunuch. Sure, I love Fala and Ron, but Tavia deserves a good ending with Raymond! When TOT2 does film, I'm pretty sure Mavis and Keith will end up together and Wallace will be all lonely. I don't think anyone wants a repeat of the doomed Stevia pairing, so I'm definitely up for some YinYi. ;D
